This broad-based degree introduces its students to the role of the professional designer as visual communicator and problem-solver. In encouraging the development of concept, research, experimentation, analysis and a critical awareness, the programme provides a fully rounded experience in graphic design whilst allowing specialisation in areas such as illustration, print-based graphics and digital graphics. The first year of study provides an underpinning of knowledge prior to the more flexible approach in Years 2 and 3, where depth and breadth of specialism is, to a large extent, controlled by the student. The direction each student may take is always supported by the programme’s main aim to provide the profession with the most appropriate new generation of design talent. An underpinning of theoretical, historical, cultural and professional contexts is given throughout the programme via lectures, visits, both in the UK and Europe, visiting lecturers, live projects, entry to national competitions and a staffing balance of both full-time educators and associate lecturers with significant industry experience.
COURSEWORK AND ASSESSMENT:-
All coursework is project-based. The culmination of the final year is an exhibition of work, a variation of which travels to the ‘shop window’ of London. To fulfil the requirements of a modern programme of this type and level, an investment in appropriate equipment is necessary, and is supported with practical advice and information.
CAREERS:-
Our course provides you with a wide variety of career options including advertising, packaging, publishing, corporate identity, branding, illustration and animation.
